If you adopted your child internationally, you may wish to consider filing a G-884 with the USCIS.

When you arrived in the U.S. with your child, you (or your child's escort) handed the immigration officials a sealed envelope containing the visa and other documents pertaining to the adoption.   Now you can now request that the documents contained in the sealed envelope be returned to you.  In the past, you had to order the form and then complete it.  The G-884 is now available online at
http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/g-884.pdf.   Some families report receiving information which they would not other wise have had for their child while others report they merely received documents of which they already had copies.
