After several years, Vietnam is now an option as a country from which to adopt a child. Vietnam recently opened intercountry adoption to citizens of the United States after its closure to the U.S. in 2003. On January 25, 2006, the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi issued the first orphan immigrant visa to a Vietnamese child adopted by an American family under the agreement framework signed between the two countries in 2005.
